'Dreamgirls' leads Oscar race

This year, Oscar got edgy, with the Academy making less conventional nomination choices that recognize a more diverse range of films.

Shockingly, "Dreamgirls" is not in the running for Best Picture. As expected, however, Eddie Murphy and Jennifer Hudson snagged nominations for Best Supporting Actor and Actress.

"Babel" came in second with seven nominations, one for Best Picture. "The Departed," "Little Miss Sunshine," "The Queen" and "Letters from Iwo Jima" rounded out the Best Picture category.

"Departed" star Leonardo DiCaprio nominated for Best Actor for "Blood Diamond." Other nominees include Ryan Gosling for "Half Nelson," Peter O'Toole for "Venus," Will Smith for "The Pursuit of Happyness" and Forest Whitaker for "The Last King of Scotland."

The competition for Best Actress is tough, with Pen?©lope Cruz nominated for "Volver," Judi Dench for "Notes on a Scandal," Helen Mirren for "The Queen," Meryl Streep for "The Devil Wears Prada" and Kate Winslet for "Little Children."

Make 'Time' for Korean Film Fest

If you get tired of the typical list of Hollywood flicks showing at Boston's theaters, check out the Korean Film Festival at the Remis Auditorium of the Museum of Fine Arts.

The MFA will be screening a variety of movies, including "King and the Clown" and "The Host." "Time" (2006), celebrated director Kim Ki-Duk's latest release, is another highlight of the event. The festival offers viewers the chance to watch movies that would otherwise never be screened in the area. The five-day event begins on Jan. 24 and lasts until Jan. 28, bringing a taste of Asian cinema to Beantown.

Tickets can be purchased online or by calling the box office at 617-369-3306. Admission is $9 for students, $10 for adults.
