Hotung will serve alcohol after break

When Hotung Caf?© reopens this spring, students of legal drinking age will be able to purchase wine and three different brands of beer.

The decision was officially made at a meeting last week between members of the Tufts Community Union (TCU) Senate, administrators and the Hotung architects, according to TCU Historian Neil DiBiase.

The alcohol will be available every night from 5 p.m. until closing, he said.

The three brands of beer to be served have yet to be selected. There will be a survey available during a senior pub night that will allow students to choose from various options.

"We realize that the majority of people that are going to be able to actually purchase the beer that will be served there are seniors; therefore, we want them to have some voice in what they would like to see," TCU Senate President Mitch Robinson said.

The final selection will include a regular domestic, a light domestic and a premium brand beer.

Robinson stressed that the addition of alcohol to the caf?©'s menu was part of an effort to better serve the requests of all students.

"We're trying to promote a social life that incorporates as many students from as many different age groups as possible," he said.

The alcohol is a major addition to the caf?©'s brand new menu, which also includes options provided by three new serving stations: a coffee bar, a Mediterranean kitchen and a smoothie counter.

Hotung will open for business sometime after students return from spring break, Robinson said.
