This weekend was one for the record books for both the men's and women's basketball teams. Junior forward Jake Wietzen hit the 1,000-point mark for his career with a first half three-pointer against Wesleyan in a game in which the Jumbos took convincingly, 94-69. Meanwhile, senior guard Valerie Krah tied the school's all-time three-point record with a clutch three-point game-winner that put Tufts ahead 50-48 with 7.6 seconds remaining against Wesleyan on Saturday.
Weitzen is the first Jumbo to reach the 1,000-point mark since the 2004-05 season, when Reggie Stovel accomplished the feat. He joins 24 other Jumbos in the 1,000-point club, adding 14 more points to his effort on Saturday to pace the team with 19. With 15.3 points per game this season, Weitzen is the Jumbos' leading scorer.
Krah's trey, the 126th of her career, moved her into a first place tie on the career list with Carrie Hironaka, who played from 1995-99. She will have the chance to claim sole possession of the record on Friday night when the Jumbos host Middlebury and look to improve their NESCAC mark to 6-0. Krah's go-ahead triple gave her a team-high 11 points to go along with seven steals in the game. She is leading the Jumbos in several offensive categories this season including points per game at 13.7, and total points at 251, with the next highest points contributor coming in with 192 points.
