From the Tufts Daily Executive Board | A word on National and International sections

Throughout this year, the Daily has struggled with its decision to temporarily discontinue our National and International wires sections, a financial decision made to offset rising printing costs. Though our revenue and relationships with advertisers are stable, they have not grown materially since we made this decision last fall.

After a month back to school, and in light of your responses to our online survey, the Daily recognizes that the Tufts community is interested in the content that the National and International pages provided. Ideally, we, too, would currently provide this content.

We feel, however, that as a local paper, our first service is to the Tufts community on the hill, in Boston and beyond. If we were to reinstate the National and International sections this semester, we would be in the difficult position of decreasing our original editorial content because we must be mindful of lowered page counts.

In order to preserve the heart of our paper, the News, Features, Arts, Sports and Viewpoints sections, we must respectfully acknowledge your input, but regretfully delay the return of the National and International wires sections. It is our intention to reincorporate this content as soon as it becomes feasible.

Rest assured, World in Brief, our daily compilation of the McClatchy Wire Service, will continue to run on page 2 and we remain aware of the importance of National and International events to Tufts University.
