Multiple fights at loud Whitfield party

TUPD officers received a call about a loud party on Whitfield Road at 12:37 a.m. on Feb. 3. When they arrived, a neighbor pointed out a group of students who appeared as though they might be fighting. The officer spoke to a student who said that when he was waiting to get into the party, an individual had started to make fun of his girlfriend.

The individual then punched him in the side of the face several times. The officers gave the student the opportunity to identify the individual, which he declined. He also declined medical care through Tufts Emergency Medical Services (TEMS).

At 12:50 a.m. police received another call about the same party. Someone said that they had been assaulted by brothers in a fraternity as retaliation for a conflict that had happened earlier.

They poked him in the face several times, but left no marks or bruises, according to McCarthy. He was also given the option of identifying the people, but declined.

Attempted purse-snatching on Latin Way

The Tufts University Police Department (TUPD) received a report from a student at 8:16 p.m. on Feb. 2 that an individual tried to steal her pocketbook at the intersection of Professors Row and Latin Way, according to TUPD Sergeant Robert McCarthy.

The student reported that two white males tried to take her bag and then ran down Latin Way towards Powderhouse Boulevard. She described the males as being about 5 feet 7 inches, of thin build, and around 15 or 16 years old.

Officers from both TUPD and the Somerville Police Department searched the area, but did not find anyone. They issued a security alert about the incident.

Theft in off-campus house

A female student reported a theft to TUPD on Feb. 2. She said she left her off-campus house on College Avenue around 6 p.m. and when she returned around 11 p.m. she found the door to her apartment opened. The door to her individual room was forced open as well. Both of the doors were locked when she left. The student's television, iPod, and laptop were all stolen.
