This Saturday, over 300 dancers will grace Cohen Auditorium as TDC presents: "Will You Dance With My Friend?" TDC Director Sarah Kohnstamm, a senior, says the show is named "in honor of the amazing middle school dances that we all came to love."
"We are poking fun at the interchanges between awkward middle-schoolers trying to dance with each other, and the moments during middle school dances that we all look back at and say, 'that was funny,'" Kohnstamm wrote in an e-mail to the Daily.
TDC members promise to be much less awkward than preteens. Their two performances, at 6:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., will feature a variety of dance styles. TDC focuses on having fun while putting on a good show. There are no auditions for the group, and students are allowed to join regardless of their dancing experience. Because the dances are only practiced one hour per week, even students with the busiest schedules can participate.
"We are proud of the diverse range of interests and abilities in our group," Kohnstamm said, "That's what makes it so fun."
Because of TDC's large membership, most students know someone who dances with the group. According to Co-Director Nicholas Wong, a senior, this is major draw for Tufts students.
"Obviously it is a lot more fun to see a classmate or friend dancing on stage, doing something that you normally wouldn't see them do," Wong wrote in an e-mail to the Daily.
The TDC show will include guest performers Sarabande and TURBO. Tickets are $3.
