The football team's freshman linebacker Brian Danshaw captured NESCAC Rookie of the Week honors for Week 2, as his defensive efforts helped lead the Jumbos to a 35-20 victory over Bates in Lewiston, Maine.
After a quiet collegiate debut against Hamilton in which he made just one solo tackle and one assisted, Danshaw had a breakout game against the Bobcats Saturday, recording five solo tackles including one for a three-yard loss. He came to life in the fourth quarter for the Jumbos, recording four of his five tackles in the game's final ten minutes.
Danshaw was part of a Tufts defense that harassed Bates senior quarterback Brandon Colon all day, holding him to 16-of-38 passing, sacking him four times and picking him off twice. Junior linebacker Andy Henke had a huge day for himself alongside Danshaw, leading the team with seven tackles, while sophomore safety Tom Tassinari added six.
Danshaw, a Coleyville, Texas native and an alum of the Heritage High School Panthers, comes from a competitive Class 5A football program. The Jumbos hope that Danshaw is the first of many productive recruits from the Texan high school football machine.
