Athletes of the Week

PAT SULLIVAN, MEN'S BASKETBALL

Senior forward Pat Sullivan scored a career-high 20 points during the men's basketball team's disappointing 80-78 loss on Saturday against Wesleyan. Sullivan, who was 5-of-9 from the floor, added four rebounds and two steals in one of the final home games of his collegiate career.

Sullivan is averaging 4.1 points per game and 3.4 rebounds per game this season in just over 15 minutes of play. At 6-foot-9 and 225 pounds, he presents an imposing figure in the low post and helps provide the team with an inside presence.

Perhaps the most impressive aspect of Sullivan's effort on Saturday was his sharp shooting, especially for a big man. He was 4-of-6 from behind the three point line and 6-of-6 from the charity stripe.

Sullivan is having the best season of his career in his final year with the team. He's averaging double-digit minutes for the first time, and already has ten blocks - two more than he had all of last season - with five games remaining.

JULIA BAILY, WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

With a career year that has thrust her into the spotlight, sophomore forward Julia Baily is proving that the women's basketball team's frontcourt depth goes far beyond its starting six-footers.

Baily came off the bench to post double digits in both of the Jumbos' NESCAC victories this weekend, combining for 27 points on 10-of-14 from the field to help Tufts improve to 4-1 in conference play.

After averaging just 5.2 minutes per game during her freshman year, Baily has stepped into a sixth-man role for the Jumbos this season. The Farmington, Conn. native is fifth on the team in scoring, having reached double digits in points in six of her past nine games. She has also strung together several strong rebounding performances, including an 18-boards-in-18-minutes effort against non-conference foe Emmanuel on Jan. 9.

Baily has also established herself as one of the team's best free-throw shooters this season, shooting at nearly an 82 percent clip from the charity stripe, good for third in the NESCAC.

Baily and the Jumbos resume NESCAC play this Friday against Middlebury.
