With just 27 days left before the municipal elections in Medford and Somerville, several events have been organized to give candidates for city council, School Committee and mayor an opportunity to share their platform with prospective voters and face off against competing candidates.

The Medford Democratic City Committee will host a “Candidate Night” for the mayoral and School Committee candidates on Oct. 16 from 7:30–9:30 p.m. at the Caron Theater in Medford High School. Mayor Breanna Lungo-Koehn is running uncontested; there are nine candidates for school committee.

The Committee will host a second forum for city council candidates on Oct. 23 from 7–9 p.m. at the Caron Theater in Medford High School. There are 14 candidates for Medford City Council, whittled down from 17 during the September preliminary election.

The Somerville Beacon and the Somerville Media Center will host two debates in the races for councilors-at-large and for mayor on Oct. 20 from 6–8:30 p.m. (with the doors opening at 6:00 p.m.). The debates will be held at the Crystal Ballroom in the Somerville Theatre. The at-large debate will run from 6–7 p.m., followed by the mayoral debate at 7:30 p.m.

Voters in Somerville will be voting for a new mayor after incumbent Katjana Ballantyne was ousted in a crushing defeat in the September preliminary election. Current city councilors-at-large Jake Wilson and Willie Burnley Jr. will be facing off for mayor in November.

The preliminary election reduced the councilor-at-large candidate field from 12 to eight.
