Jumbos hoping to mix and match way to Regionals

The one certainty about the women's softball lineup this year is that keeping a scorecard won't be easy. After losing two-year centerfielder Carrie Hironaka and four-year shortstop Cora Thompson to graduation, coach Kris Herman is going to have to use her team's versatility, and a little creativity, to fill the positions each game.

VH1 encourages Beatles fans to 'Imagine'

If you've seen VH1 at all in the past month, it seems that you can't watch it for five minutes without seeing a commercial or self-promotion for their TV movie Two of Us. Based on a rumored unannounced visit that Paul McCartney made to John Lennon's New York City apartment in 1976, six years after the Beatles broke up, the script takes on the eternal question of historians, fans, and musicians alike: "What if...?"

Childs and Bryant duke it out

With just a couple of weeks left in the NBA's regular season, tensions are running high among the league's playoff-bound teams. The testosterone escalated on Sunday in Los Angeles, when Chris Childs of the New York Knicks and the Lakers' Kobe Bryant went at it. The altercation was certainly not a first for New York against teams coached by former Knick Phil Jackson.

Are you 'just right'?

I have been struggling with an eating disorder, anorexia, for quite some time. Through a long process of "refeeding," group support, the strength of family and friends, and an introduction to the real issues covered up when I focused on food and calories, I have slowly but surely come to life again. On a physical level, this recovery means weight gain, but there is so much more! I can now be fully present and interact in relationships. I can think clearly. I have the energy to make it through the day. I am not freezing cold all the time. I can ask for, accept, and give love and support. I am able to think about others and what is going on in my life. Every day I discover more and greater benefits of recovery from my eating disorder.

Students enjoy Spring Fling

She shouted the absurd non-sequitur at the top her lungs into the large microphone: "I'm Armenian!" After performing a frenetic stage dance and momentarily lifting her shirt to the masses, the nameless young Tufts student made sure that everyone knew her roots. The silly comment made little sense to the thousand-plus who came to Spring Fling, but the crowd was having too good of a time to let her words' absurdity bother it. Concert goers arrived at the President's lawn expecting some entertainment. They got what they had hoped for and then some.

Communication connection

I just finished talking on Instant Messenger with a friend who has a situation similar to mine. He wants to be in the field of communications, he's not sure where in the field, and he feels completely unprepared for the real world. Not a surprise, right? Every senior feels that way. The thing is, communications people at this school are repeatedly left out in the cold, because there is no communications major. This is understandable, as Tufts has neither the room nor the facilities to create a major or a communications school. The fact is, though, that an increasing number of people are graduating this liberal arts institution and rejecting the idea of consulting and banking, and instead opting, at least for a few years, to do something like film, television, or journalism.

Sno Core 2000 rocks the Avalon

As darkness fell on the Avalon last Wednesday night, a crowd very unlike the club's regulars began to assemble outside on Lansdowne Street. These were not techno- or hip-hop-loving dancers clad in designer clothing, but rather a collection of rather stereotypical metal heads. Dressed in black and sporting countless piercings, they lined up for blocks, patiently waiting for the club's doors to open at 7 p.m. Sno Core 2000 had arrived in Boston.

Michael Douglas shines in the newly released 'Wonder Boys'

In the first 20 minutes of Chris Hanson's new movie Wonder Boys, a cute little dog gets shot, a rare Marilyn Monroe jacket gets stolen, and we meet a six-and-a-half foot tuba-playing transvestite - all are early indications that Wonder Boys is something fresh. However, if you strip away the wacky exterior, we are left with the typical old story about a misguided man who finds direction with help from a group of quirky characters. That is not to say Wonder Boys isn't entertaining - it is well acted and, at times, very funny, plus there are enough off-the-wall moments to make you forget that you've heard the story countless times before.
