Rumor has it that the first nude scene in a movie appeared less than a year after the Lumiere Bros. premiere public screening of a film in 1895. Since these first flickering flesh-images, movies and nudity have gone together like quads and running.

Jumbos bounce back from Trinity loss with two wins

The women's squash team showed its resiliency this weekend, bouncing back from a 9-0 loss to Trinity on Friday to win both of its Saturday matches at Wesleyan. The Jumbos defeated Middlebury 5-4 and Hamilton 7-2 to close out the weekend.

As winter break nears, Tufts students pack into Tisch to cram for finals, hug goodbye to friends they won't see for the next four weeks and figure out how to hitch rides home, but what does the break mean for the population of professors and instructors on campus?

Student films for social change debut tonight

Tonight, Tufts student filmmakers in Roberta Oster-Sachs' class, "Producing films for Social Change," will debut their films, created through a semester of what Oster-Sachs refers to as "journalism bootcamp." Students, many with little to no experience with broadcast journalism, must make a film and it's not a simple task.

Correction

A recent article ("Fletcher terrorism course looks at crisis management," 12/03) implied that the Metropolitan College of New York offers one class on emergency management. In fact, the school offers a Masters degree in Public Administration in Emergency and Disaster Management.

Winter athletes' holiday break cut short for training sessions

While most of the student body is looking forward to the upcoming five-week winter break, many winter athletes' time away from Tufts will be cut short, as teams will return to Medford early to train for the upcoming NESCAC schedule. Athletes on the men's and women's basketball, swimming and track teams will spend the first two weeks of the break at home, only to rejoin their teams for the remainder of the holiday season for practices.

Students hit the stores this shopping season

The holiday season offers a sojourn for college students: they get a month off from school to sleep for 10 hours a day and watch reruns on MTV and BET. Before relaxing, however, many tackle the task of shopping for the holidays, which can be stressful and time consuming. Nevertheless, Tufts students have made their holiday shopping lists and have begun their search for gifts.

TDC to trample, jam the stage this Saturday

If pre-finals madness has you feeling worn and weathered, skip the club on Saturday, go on down to Cohen Auditorium and let the Tufts Dance Collective bust the moves for you in their latest show, "Traffic Jam." This year, the production consists of 18 different performances from TDC, featuring guest groups including Turbo, BEATS, and Sarabande.

Pass the buck, duck the bullet

As the holiday season rolls around, families across the country look forward to celebrating and spending time with friends and loved ones. For many, however, this year's celebrations will empty as those close to them are overseas, fighting in the longest American military engagement since the war in southeast Asia. The chill of winter and the approach of the holidays should remind us of those in uniform serving overseas longer and in greater numbers than would be necessary had our leaders planned better.
