Genes stacked against women wanting six-packs

In honor of my little sister's 16th birthday today, I am going to print one of her questions. No, she is not a student here (yet), but her question is definitely pertinent, as her quest for visible abs is one shared by copious amounts of female students here (and everywhere).

Legally-minded junior's book a 'fruitful' endeavor

New VACO release more than OK to GO

A little bit country and a little bit rock n' roll has always been one way to describe the music of Virginia Coalition. Well, wave goodbye to the country and say hello to rock n' roll. Oh, and don't forget the funk.

Vietnam-Iraq parallels play into public opinion

The comparison between the Iraq and Vietnam Wars is a contentious and politically loaded one, and whether such a comparison is useful and relevant or baseless and inapplicable often seems to depend on the party or politician speaking.

New Englanders nice, Tufts students not

@bodytext: New Englanders nice, Tufts students not I was deeply upset by the opinions voiced by many of the out-of-state/country students in yesterday's article ("Cultural shifts surprise many American students"). I am from Massachusetts - I live only twenty minutes away from Tufts and I was surprised and saddened by similar aspects of life here. I have been trained and accustomed to smiling at every stranger I make eye contact with, and to generally being friendly and courteous in public. I did not find these characteristics to be traits of the Tufts community and last year, as a freshman, I was very disheartened by this. It is in no way a reflection of the way of life in Massachusetts or New England communities. It angers me when I hear students not from this area attribute the rudeness and unfriendliness of many Tufts students with Massachusetts, Boston, or New England. Perhaps if everyone here were a little more friendly, and a lot more receptive to the wonderful people in our surrounding communities, it would be no less than obvious that the atmosphere at Tufts is created wholly by the attitudes of students, and is in no way shaped by the New England tradition of friendliness and hospitality to strangers.Emily Chen LA '07

On community

Over the past few weeks, I've been watching the members of the Class of 2008, in part nostalgically and in part remorsefully, go through many of the same motions I did four years ago. It seems that many freshmen, in addition to coping with academic challenges and the challenges of living independently (with a stranger), are caught up in the search for a place to belong, a community. And between general interest meetings, auditions, and student government elections, there are dozens of communities on-campus seeking new members.
