MFA jewelry exhibit brings sparkle to the Museum of Fine Arts

"Jewels, Gems and Treasures: Ancient to Modern," curated by Yvonne Markowitz of the Museum of Fine Arts, is a study in the appreciation and significance of various jewels and precious pieces over time. Spanning centuries and six continents, the show features studio jewelry, diamonds once belonging to film legend Joan Crawford and a suite owned by Mary Todd Lincoln, as well as 17th?century south German rosaries and a Nubian crystal pendant dating back to 712 B.C. The exhibit calls into question the multiple functions of jewelry, and it displays pieces that range from the protective to the decorative.

New yogurt shop in Davis serves variety of tasty treats

iYO Cafe, a name that is still making the rounds among Tufts students as "that new frozen yogurt place," opened a few weeks ago in Davis Square.  Yes, the cafe sells frozen yogurt. But whoever enters the cafe will be pleasantly surprised to discover that there is much more to enjoy than just the popular frozen treat.

Fall promises a variety of new TV shows

Every fall, television networks unleash a plethora of new shows in pursuit of ratings and critical acclaim. Last year's "New Girl," "American Horror Story" and  "Homeland" were all big hits for NBC, FX and Showtime respectively. The many new shows premiering this September and October will attempt to recreate that magic.

Time-tested tension, rockabilly inspiration drive 'Blunderbuss,' White's first solo effort

Sometimes, the strongest impressions lie in art's subtlest moments of honesty, especially when they come from the utterly disillusioned and boldly organic mind of Jack White. In "Blunderbuss," the listener can taste the overwhelming tension that White feels on the heels of the 2011 dissolution of his magnum opus, The White Stripes, whose reimagination and revitalization of blues rocketed the Third Man Records founder to superstardom.

Tantalizing movie releases loom as summer approaches

Tufts students have the unfortunate tendency to stress over finals by quarantining themselves in Tisch Library, furiously scribbling down notes and frantically rereading textbooks. Yet, this behavior has drastic effects on the ability to absorb a different kind of education: a proper pop culture education (priorities, people!). Luckily, former co-columnists Zach Drucker and Chris Poldoian have closely followed the cinema scene, ignoring their respective studies to watch countless hours of trailers in order to tell the Tufts student body what to watch for this summer. Even if you don't leave the Reading Room for the next three weeks, don't worry - borrow a pair of headphones and you'll feel like summer's already here!
