Sundance switches it up for COVID-19

While regular fest-goers and journalists were disappointed at the loss of the iconic destination and its atmosphere of shared excitement and cinematic joy, this switch to a virtual platform opened the festival up to a wider audience for the 2021 films.

‘The White Tiger’ book roars louder than its film adaptation

Netflix’s “The White Tiger” (2021) adapts Aravind Adiga’s award-winning book of the same name (2008) almost too well. For the most part, sticking close to the novel’s events and language works. The movie effectively captures Adiga's vision of a piece of India — a dark story of soured class relations and corruption hiding under a facade of democracy. However, jamming so much of the original plot onto the screen also has downsides. Namely, the movie loses much of the book’s satirical humor and leaves many moments without sufficient context.

The 'Man on the Moon' returns

Two massive albums dropped on the night of Dec. 11, 2020. Though many may have gone straight to Taylor Swift’s “Evermore,” “Man on the Moon III: The Chosen” was the true gem.

In Photos: Winter in Houston and San Francisco

"COVID-19 poses extreme challenges for international travel. Thus, it’s been a year since I last went back home. As winter break approached, I couldn’t imagine being alone in Boston, especially during the holiday season. So I went on a solo trip and indulged myself with splendid views of the South and West Coasts. I took these photos while sitting by the Freeport beach in Texas and some others while watching the sunset on the highest overlook in San Francisco. These views brought me enormous tranquility, and I couldn’t resist the urge to capture them at the moment. I hope to share these stunning scenes withyou and that they bring about the same power for you as they did for me." (Mengqi Irina Wang / The Tufts Daily)

The DC superheroes known to most of us, like Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman, are not the only heroes of our world. The Other History of the DC Universe by John Ridley finally tells their stories, and the first issue of this miniseries is a triumphant debut.
