Neena Kapur | The IT Ambassador

Today, Dec. 3, marks the beginning of the World Conference on International Telecommunications (WCIT?12), convened by the International Telecommunications Unions (ITU) of the United Nations. And, though this conference may seem like just another UN meeting, there is a lot at stake. The future of the Internet as a global entity is being debated, and many negative ramifications could result.

Athletics not root of Armstrong's honorary degree

After a recent report from the U.S Anti?Doping Agency all but confirmed that champion cyclist and testicular cancer survivor Lance Armstrong engaged in illegal doping during his run of seven Tour de France titles - titles that were subsequently voided - many of his former sponsors have distanced themselves from an athlete who, for over a decade, was a role model worldwide.

Mae Humiston & Sara Gardner | Let's Talk About Food

Up until this point in this column, we have discussed only the physical processes surrounding food. This part of the food discussion was primarily concerned with how our dishes look and taste, as well as where our food comes from and where it goes once we finish it. But beyond the tangible trappings of the food?cycle, there is also an entirely imperceptible realm of culture, ritual and spirituality associated with it. Food has always been an intrinsic part of cultures all around the world. Our food is infused with meaning, which permeates into its lifecycle from production to disposal.

Is Hillel truly "the foundation for Jewish campus life" for all Jews?

Hillel is advertised as "the foundation for Jewish campus life." I assumed this meant that Tufts Hillel is a place for all Jews, but recently learned this is not true. Unfortunately, this supposed "foundation for Jewish campus life" is limited to Jews who support Israel in its current form, including the occupation of Palestine and the violence towards people in Gaza. As a Jewish student who is on Tufts Hillel board, a proud member of Tufts Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) and Boston Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP), I feel isolated at Hillel. My Jewish identity provides context to my life, my worldview and my experiences. I should feel welcomed at Hillel, especially because my personal opposition to the occupation of Palestine stems from my Jewish values.

Mashed potatoes, hummus and settler colonialism

There's something about November that never fails to transport me back to my days in elementary school. I remember the excitement boiling up in my stomach in anticipation of that ambiguous period known as "the holidays." It was finally time to dust off the age-old story of Thanksgiving and cut feathers out of red, yellow and orange construction paper for my headdress. My heart would always flutter at the thought of being able to reveal to yet another group of people that I am related to William Bradford - "the guy who invented Thanksgiving" I would boast.
