Hockey | Tufts loses in overtime to Suffolk, stuck in six-game losing streak

At the start of winter break, the hockey team had every right to feel good about its chances to climb the NESCAC standings. They boasted a 4-3-1 record that included a landmark win at Middlebury in the season opener, and were optimistic that star goalie Scott Barchard would soon make his return between the pipes.

Women's Squash | Jumbos hold serve yet again but struggle with their depth

In three matches this weekend, the women's squash team kept up its pace of beating teams behind them in the rankings. No. 23 Tufts had important wins over No. 28 Wellesley last Thursday and No. 32 Boston College on Sunday. But a 9-0 loss to No.16 Wesleyan in between on Friday — in which the final three Jumbos in the nine-person ladder all lost in three games and managed only 12 points between them — raised concerns about the team's depth.

Inside the NFL | Albert Haynesworth: The Redskins' $41 million disaster

Albert Haynesworth's tenure as a member of the Washington Redskins presumably came to a close Tuesday afternoon after being suspended, without pay, for the final four games of the season. All reports out of Washington's front office indicate that Haynesworth will either be traded or released this coming offseason. This suspension arose after a season-long struggle between Haynesworth and head coach Mike Shanahan. While Haynesworth and those close to him protest that he is being treated unfairly, his actions demonstrate that he is clearly in the wrong.

Enraged Cavaliers fans bring the noise against LeBron

Last Thursday night marked the most anticipated return since, well, maybe ever. A player that had spent his entire career playing for the Cavaliers finally came back to the city that had loved him since his entrance into the league. Here's a hint: It's not a 7−foot−3 bald Lithuanian.

Ethan Frigon | The Beard Abides

Based solely on on−field exploits, Auburn quarterback Cam Newton should clearly win this year's Heisman Trophy. There hasn't been this clear−cut of a Heisman frontrunner for as long as I can remember. Sure, Tim Tebow was great in 2007, putting up very similar numbers to Newton this year with more touchdowns and passing yards and fewer rushing yards. A bad defense hamstrung Tebow's Florida Gators to the tune of a 9−4 season, and Heisman winners almost never play for 9−4 teams — even those with a mediocre defense. Auburn's defense has been unable to stop Newton from leading them to a 13−0 season and a spot in the BCS National Championship.

Women's Swimming and Diving | Jumbos place fifth at MIT Invite

While most classmates were busy preparing for finals, members of the women's swimming and diving team spent most of their weekend at the MIT Invitational competing against six other squads, including Div. I Harvard. Tufts placed fifth overall — a successful result, considering that the Jumbos were neither as prepared nor as rested as many of their opponents.

Women's Track and Field | Jumbos shake out jitters in first meet

The first few meets of the indoor track and field season are traditionally used to get a bearing on the fitness of team members. For the Jumbos, the Jay Carisella Track and Field Invitational, hosted by Northeastern University at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston, turned out to be an opportunity to set high marks and fast times too.
