Activists care deeply about their cause

To the Editor:

I am writing in response to a comment that was made in Wednesday's article, "TSAD members stage sit-in protest at Bendetson" (11/29), where a student was quoted as saying, "These kids are a small minority - their only real goal is activism itself. They like to see their names in the paper." This statement is unfair. While I was not a participant in the protest and I did not help to organize the event, I am aware of the amount of preparation and commitment that the students dedicated to this cause. These are not students who woke up Tuesday morning and decide to march into Bendetson just to have an excuse to make some noise. Rather, TSAD has been working with the Tufts administration toward a particular goal with a specific deadline for a number of weeks. These students have given up time and have made sacrifices that are both personal and academic in order to fight for what they believe in. Regardless of whether I agree or disagree with the objectives of the group, I commend them for carrying out their actions with such thorough consideration and I want to assure them that this has not gone unnoticed by all.
