The Naked Quad Run has received a lot of negative publicity recently. President Bacow sees the Naked Quad Run as a sign of students' decaying morality. I view Tufts' contributions to society as positive, and am encouraged by the popularity of organizations like LCS and the height of participation in global programs like Fulbright scholarships. President Bacow chooses to ignore this, complaining that fraternities are socially negligent and only burden others with activities like the Naked Quad Run.
I suggest a compromise. The Naked Quad Run should be used to raise funds for charity. Runners could solicit donations, either as a flat amount or as a challenge: a certain fee per lap. Let's make the Naked Quad Run an event of which we can all be proud.
