Tufts international students grapple with imminent visa restrictions, concerns about potential drops in international enrollment

The Department of Homeland Security announced new regulations on July 17 for the F-1 student visa, establishing fixed periods of admission into the United States for international students. Formerly, F-1 visa holders were admitted for unspecified periods of time, allowing students’ stay to exceed their exact duration of study. This new policy, known as the “final rule” and set to take effect on Sept. 15, creates significant uncertainty for current and prospective international students at Tufts.

Tufts launches new College Prep 101 program for neurodivergent students

Tufts is piloting a new pre-college program this summer called College Prep 101 for Neurodivergent Students, designed to help neurodivergent high school students prepare for their transition to college. The program, launched by Tufts University College, will run June 22–26 and is open to students in grades 10 through 12 who are able to commute to Tufts’ Medford/Somerville campus.

Tufts humanities faculty research disrupted by federal funding changes

Faculty research at Tufts has been limited by the cancellation of grants and the withdrawal of research funding across the country since President Donald Trump took office last winter. These changes, following the shuttering of federal agencies and shifts in research priorities by the federal administration, have left faculty members in humanities departments are facing uncertainty with limited institutional support.
