Tufts highlights two errors in Academic Calendar

Tufts students who enjoy making their vacation plans in advance were greeted with a disappointing notification yesterday from the Dean of Students office.

Two errors in the Academic Calendar were corrected in a school-wide e-mail. The first error rectified a mistake calling for Thursday, Oct. 14 to follow Monday's schedule when in fact the "Tufts Monday" will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 12.

Dean of Students Bruce Reitman said that "erroneous information is always a possibility ... and most students take it in stride after a semester at Tufts."

The second error gave students the false hope of an extra day off this year. Though Thursday, Nov. 11 is listed as a University holiday, the e-mail stated that "This is incorrect. Classes will be held on November 11."

The e-mail subsequently "apologized for any inconvenience(s) caused by these errors."

Reitman noted that "either the Bulletin or the Handbook has had similar errors in the past - though usually not both at the same time."

He added that "corrections are a good use for the broadcast e-mail system."

Copies of the Academic Calendar can be found in the student Handbook, the Pachyderm, and the Academic Bulletin.
