Shepherd earns academic All-District nod

Men's basketball senior tri-captain Dave Shepherd was named to the Academic All-District first team Thursday.

Tufts is a member of a Northeast Region that includes all New England and New York universities, and Shepherd was selected as one of the area's top five student athletes. The honor was voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of American (CoSIDA). With the honor, Shepherd is now in contention to be named an Academic All-American by ESPN The Magazine.

In the classroom, Shepherd has been a consistent member of the Dean's List, majoring in economics with a minor in entrepreneurial leadership. He has also served as a resident advisor and a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee.

On the court, Shepherd has been the Jumbos' starting point guard for three seasons and a tri-captain for two. He has been among the league's top 10 in assists and steals in each of the past three years, including a sophomore season in which he easily led the NESCAC in assists with 174.

Shepherd is one of five Tufts seniors who will take the floor this weekend as the Jumbos play Bowdoin and Colby in their last NESCAC games of the regular season.
