To the Editor:
I am writing to thank you for your thoughtful, balanced and articulate April 4 editorial "We're Proud of you, Tufts." I am sorry that the hectic days of registration precluded my responding sooner. I am also very sorry that my praise of premeds was taken to mean that I did not value other students at Tufts.
My reasons for writing particularly about premeds were that I had just returned from a wonderful conference with those students and that I know this population well, having worked with them for 25 years. However, in the few short months I have been Associate Dean I have seen exactly what you state in your editorial.
We are all fortunate to be at Tufts where there are many bright, motivated and committed students aiming to do their best and contribute to our world. The medical profession certainly does not hold a monopoly on those individuals nor is it the sole or even best way to make a difference. I apologize if my kudos to premeds implied that.
Again, many thanks for your positive words about all Tufts students. I am grateful to be able to work with this community.
