It was lonely at the top for Liz "Larry Summers" Hoffman (nickname explanation below -- wait for it), who followed up a 9-0 Sunday afternoon performance in Week 3 with a disastrous slide from her perch atop the Editors' Challenge standings, losing six of her last seven to fall into a tie for first place.
Ethan "Candy" Landy, who dominated Week 3 with an 11-5 finish, jumped into a tie with Hoffman this week, gracing the top spot for the first time in his young career. Two games out of first place is a three-way tie of Alex "Death Threat" Bloom, Evans "Tonight's the night the Red Sox" Clinchy, and Tim "Ashley" Judson.
The Daily would like to apologize for any disparaging remarks made in last week's Eds' Challenge installment, as Hoffman has clearly been proven wrong -- girls, in fact, are perfectly capable of making intelligent prognostications about sports. And by "perfectly capable," we of course mean "better than Ross." Ross "TARvaris Jackson" Marrinson proved himself drastically underqualified for a starting job last week, going a dreadful 7-9 and leaving the fans chanting for Kelly Holcomb. Moving ahead of Marrinson in the bottom half of the standings are the three female members of the Daily sports department -- Sapna "Garden State" Bansil three games out of first place, and Carly "Noodles and Scallions" Helfand and Rachel "Orch Dork" Dolin one game behind her.
This week is sure to shake up the standings, bringing close calls from all over: two of the league's worst teams meet this week (Oakland and Miami), as do two of its most unpredictable (Chicago and Detroit) and two of its ... least law-abiding (New England and Cincinnati). Rob "King Carmichael" Silverblatt offers his guest picks.
