Article: Op-Ed | "A plea for Cubs-Red Sox unity" (Sept. 18)

Well stated, Mr. Goldberg. You paint a stark picture of reality, and I do not know where the future will lead, but as you [said], there is still some time left to repair this broken friendship.

As a lifelong Montreal Expos fan (may they rest in peace), I can relate to the Cubs-Red Sox situation you have described. Blue Jays fans were our allies, celebrating with us in victory and sharing our woes in defeat.

However, after the Blue Jays won the World Series in the early 1990s, the Toronto fans developed an aura of superiority and became our worst enemies.

So I agree with you, Mr. Goldberg and have just one final plea for you Red Sox and Cubs fans: Just as the North and South reconciled their brotherhood after the U.S. Civil War, and just as in my native homeland, Norway, the country's largest state employer, Road Salting Union Local 382, repaired its long and rich alliance with the National Highway Repairman's Service after the notorious winter strikes following the great blizzard of 1984, Cubs and Red Sox fans, please, I beg of you, work out your troubled relationship before you lose your only friend, ally and lover.

Article: Op-Ed | "Shhh! Don't say that at Tufts!" (Sept. 10)

While I agree with Mr. Ullman's sentiments, I think it ultimately comes down to the fact that Tufts is an institution that respects freedom of speech in all its forms and that when you choose to pay for your tuition you understand that it might go to certain organizations you disagree with.

Unlike the government, where by law you are forced to pay taxes, it is optional to attend Tufts.

If you don't want your $2 or whatever it is to fund The Primary Source, stop attending.
