It's a little early in the season for streaks, but this one goes back nearly 11 months. In the last 10 weeks that NESCAC field hockey has been in action, the Jumbos have garnered four league Player of the Week nods.
The most recent came on Tuesday, when co-captain Ileana Casellas-Katz was named the first conference player recognized this season. It was her first career selection.
Casellas-Katz powered the Jumbos to an Opening-Day win over Colby on Saturday. She provided the key pair of goals that erased a 1-0 Mules lead, and then swung the game in Tufts' favor.
The goals put Casellas-Katz halfway to her total from last season, when she played a more supporting role in the young Tufts offense with a team-high nine assists.
The Jumbos take on non-conference Wellesley today, against whom Casellas-Katz has a strong track record. She has scored in each of the last three games against the Blue.
