Hotung Caf?©'s dining area, pictured here, and its balcony were supposed to open at the beginning of September.
But when the administration sent the project out to solicit bids from construction companies, all of them projected that the renovation would be more expensive than the university's initial estimate, which was made with the help of Waltham-based Livermore & Associates Architects and Planners.
While the university eventually found a company to take the project, the initial bidding process set the timeline back.
"It was literally back to the drawing board," Dean of Student Affairs Bruce Reitman said.
Delays in construction and getting custom furniture have since caused further complications. The dining area and balcony are now expected to be open in November.
