Sullivan bests field at Bowdoin Golf Invitational
Senior Pat Sullivan propelled the golf team to a third-place showing at last weekend's Bowdoin Golf Invitational. He earned medalist honors after posting the lowest individual score in the 13-team field. Sullivan finished four over par with a two-day score of 148, one shot ahead of Saint Anselm junior Chris Tarallo.
The 6-foot-9 Sullivan, also a center on the men's basketball team, is coming off a 2006 campaign in which he finished 19th at the NESCAC championship last October and 11th out of 105 golfers in the Lou Flumere Invitational the previous April. His performance helped the Jumbos earn their best showing in the Bowdoin Invitational since they won the event in 2004.
Tufts ended the first round in sixth place with a combined score of 325. The team then surged in day two, shooting 14 strokes better to catapult itself to third, its seventh top-five finish at the Bowdoin Invitational in the past nine years.
Husson won the event with a score of 611, behind the strength of sophomore Chris Coffin's third-place showing and freshman Kevin Byrne's fourth-place finish. Tufts was one of four NESCAC schools to participate. Bates' finished fifth, its best showing in the event since 2003. Colby turned in an 11th-place performance, while host Bowdoin fielded two teams that placed seventh and 12th, respectively.
