Undaunted by the challenge of high-level competition, the volleyball team raised the bar last night, coming away with an impressive straight-set win over Div. II Stonehill College in North Easton, Mass.
Sophomore Brogie Helgeson paced the Jumbos in kills for the first time in her collegiate career, leading Tufts to the 31-29, 30-27, 30-22 victory. Helgeson's 12 kills were accompanied by 10 from freshman Dawson Joyce-Mendive and nine from senior captain Katie Wysham.
Wysham also had three aces on the night, tied with junior Natalie Goldstein for the team lead. Goldstein contributed 21 digs, giving her five 20-dig performances on the season.
With their one midweek game behind them, the Jumbos can now turn their attention to the Tufts Invitational Tournament this weekend. Tufts opens with a 4 p.m. first-rounder against the Wellesley Blue.
Tufts' other opponents this weekend include Elizabethtown, SUNY Brockport and MIT. The Jumbos eagerly await a rematch with the Engineers, who eliminated them from the MIT Invitational Tournament Saturday afternoon.
