Athletes of the Week

LAUREN FEDORE, WOMEN'S SOCCER

Lauren Fedore led the women's soccer team on Saturday with a goal and an assist in the 4-1 Jumbo victory against Bowdoin. She set the tone for the game very quickly when she put Tufts in the lead in the 12th minute with a brilliant header off of a free kick from fellow senior Jessie Wagner. In the second half, she made her presence felt again when she delivered a pass to senior captain Martha Furtek, who then scored on a rocket from 25 yards out.

Fedore is now third on the team in points with two goals and three assists as her team has won seven straight and remains undefeated alongside Williams at the top of the NESCAC leader board. She has been a major component of the team for all four of her years at Tufts. Last year, she led the team with eight goals and one assist. This year she has been somewhat overshadowed by the other big scorers in the Jumbos' front three, but she has been a major contributor in each game and showed her dominance on the stat sheet on Homecoming.

TOM TASSINARI, FOOTBALL

Sophomore Tom Tassinari continued his strong play this season, pacing the football team to a 21-13 Homecoming victory over Bowdoin. The safety led the Jumbos with 12 tackles on the day, also recording a forced fumble and a fumble recovery versus the Polar Bears. But it was his 87-yard interception return that made the biggest difference Saturday.

Tufts led 14-0 after a pair of one-yard touchdown runs by junior running back Will Forde. But with Bowdoin driving for a touchdown to tie the game with just 42 seconds left before halftime, Tassinari snared a pass from Polar Bears sophomore quarterback Oliver Kell and rumbled all the way to the endzone.

Tassinari was named the NESCAC Defensive Player of the Week for his standout performance. The sophomore leads Tufts this year with 29 tackles and also has 4 interceptions to lead the NESCAC. The Jumbos defense will have a real test next week as the undefeated Trinity Bantams come to Zimman Field. The Bantams, led by junior quarterback Eric McGrath, lead the NESCAC in offense with 36 points a game.
