At a New York City dog-lovers' event in the summer of 2004, there were canines of all kinds: some big, some tiny, some in costume, some up for adoption - and some thirsty. Slobbery splashes flew as a woman quenched her friend's needs with a handy water bottle.
By the end of the day, this photographer's dog-less family fell in love with a brother and sister puppy up for adoption. They had been found on the streets of New York; the rest of the litter, used as pit bull fight bait, hadn't made it.
We took them both, and now, we are happily - and finally - a dog family.
