Students keep TEMS busy

The Tufts University Police Department (TUPD) received seven calls this weekend that resulted in action from Tufts Emergency Medical Services (TEMS). According to TUPD Sergeant Robert McCarthy, these numbers are higher than usual, but typical for a Halloween weekend.

Wallet, car keys stolen in Jackson

A Jackson Gym locker in the men's locker room was broken into between 7:00 and 7:45 a.m. Oct. 30. The suspect stole the victim's wallet and car keys. The victim said he could tell someone went through his car, but nothing was missing. The suspect found the car in the parking lot. According to McCarthy, the suspect most likely located the car by using the beeper that unlocks it.

Student placed in protective custody during TEMS call

An officer driving by Hill Hall noticed eight students holding up what appeared to be an intoxicated male at 1:14 a.m. on Oct. 26. He stopped and the students told him that the student had been drinking vodka on the Tisch Library roof and that they were trying to bring him back to his dorm to call TEMS.

When TEMS arrived, the student was so uncooperative that ambulance workers called for a policeman to accompany them to Lawrence Memorial Hospital. TUPD placed the student in protective custody, and he was placed in handcuffs in the ambulance. An officer had to stay with the student in the hospital until 5 a.m.

Students in Lewis caught with marijuana

TUPD officers went to Lewis Hall at 11:24 p.m. on Oct. 29 at the request of an RA who suspected that students were smoking marijuana. They found a small, empty plastic bag which smelled like marijuana and there were small pieces inside. The bag was destroyed and a report was given to the Dean of Student Affair's Office.
