University-run bookstore proposed

The Inter-Dormitory Counc il (IDC) proposed to the Administration "to turn the University Store into part of the University" as Follett's lease runs out this year. The proposal is aimed at alleviating many of the problems currently existing at the bookstore.

Assistant Deb of Arts and Sciences, Larry Ladd, representing the University at Tuesday's IDC meeting, later said that "the University is leaning towards giving the lease to a new company."

Senate Chairman Tom Alperin, Chairman of IDC's Judiciary Committee Art Scharlton, Ladd, and a student representative from the bookstore committee will meet on March 10thto further discuss the future of the bookstore.

Some of the problems that would be solved by having the University run the store, according to the IDC, are "overpriced merchandise and surly workers."

In addition, the profits would then go tothe Student Activities Office. The ICC proposes to alleviate these problemsby employing one paid administrator, two secretaries and a work-study staff.
