Women's hoops moves to 8-0 with win at Simmons

The women's basketball team tied the school mark for the best start in program history, improving to 8-0 by thrashing non-conference Simmons 73-35 last night in Boston. The 38-point win brought the Jumbos' widest margin of victory since the team trounced Wellesley by 45 on Dec. 9, 2006.

Down 7-0 less than two minutes into the game, Tufts quickly eliminated any notion of an upset bid, using a 10-0 run to take the lead for good.

From there, the rout was on. The Jumbos' 18-point halftime lead ballooned to 31 after the team went on a 15-2 run to begin the second half. Tufts' advantage grew to as many as 41 before cruising to its third win by at least 25 points this season.

In all, 11 different players found their way onto the scoring sheet for the Jumbos. Sophomore forward Julia Baily tied a career high with 14 points to lead all scorers. Freshman point guard Colleen Hart posted her sixth double-digit scoring game of the season, notching 12 points, including 2-for-3 from three-point range. Hart has now made 15 of her 29 attempts from beyond the arc this season.

Tufts will go for the best start in program history tomorrow, when it travels to Wellesley to take on the 3-4 Blue.
