Dear Editor:
We are extremely disappointed by your lack of coverage of this past Saturday's Winter Bash. This was an annual school-wide event that drew between 3,500 and 4,000 students, a significant proportion of the undergraduate population. We do not understand why it did not receive at least a mention in either Monday's or Tuesday's edition of the Daily.
As co-chairs of Programming Board, the organization responsible for planning and putting on Winter Bash, we, along with our Executive Committee and the other members of Programming Board, have worked tirelessly over the last few months to make sure this event was a success.
Many of us, along with other volunteers from the Senate, worked from 9:30 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Saturday setting up for the event. We also worked at the event, volunteering our time to make sure everything was running smoothly so that other students could enjoy themselves. We were also there until 4:30 a.m. breaking down the event.
All of this work was not in vain; we are certain that students enjoyed themselves, and we know we did our part to help enhance the social life here at Tufts.
However, it is extremely frustrating to us that the event was not given any press coverage, and it makes our efforts seem somewhat futile. There has been a lot of talk lately about the dwindling social scene on campus, and although we have tried to combat that by providing events such as this one, we can only do so much.
We need the Daily's support in generating buzz about the social events that do exist, and we look to the Daily to give us ideas about what we are doing right or wrong. Without any coverage, though, we lose motivation to continue having these types of events. We hope that in the future we get the publicity we feel we deserve and that our hard work does not go unnoticed.
Thank you,
Erica Shipow and Lauren KariProgramming Board Co-Chairs
