The Feb. 26 article "'Today Show' host Vieira to deliver Commencement address" attributed quotes to a source named "Gowa" without listing a first name or title for the source. The quotes were from Joanne Gowa, who is the head of the Honorary Degree Committee for the Board of Trustees.
The same article referred to Kim Thurler, the director of public relations for Tufts' Medford/Somerville campus, as "Thurler" without identifying her by first name or title.
Thanks to a Web comment from a discerning reader, the Daily has discovered several cases of plagiarism that took place in the paper's Balance section between September 2005 and May 2006. Three articles by the same author, titled "Spotlight On... | Sweet potato hits the plate-and how sweet it is" (Nov. 30, 2005), "Spotlight On... | Sugar snap peas: Snap up your diet" (April 26, 2006), and "Spotlight On... | Plums: They're plum delicious" (May 21, 2006) included large passages that were identical or nearly identical to various sources on the Web.
The articles in question have been removed from TuftsDaily.com. The writer in question no longer works for the Daily.
