Performance groups to find their muse

Tomorrow night marks the beginning of a relationship with Tufts' popular International Relations Program and its vibrant arts scene. "Issue as Muse 2008: A Night of Artistic Inspiration" features 11 different performance groups in the areas of dance, a capella, acting, mime and poetry, and is sponsored by the IR Program.

Senior Matt Plitch, a member of the IR Director's Leadership Council and a liaison between the IR student body, the faculty and the administration, came up with the idea for the event. Though most events created by Council members take the form of panel discussions or lectures, Plitch wanted to try something new.

"I believe this is the first time the IR Department has come together in collaboration with the artistic side of the Tufts community," he said.

Though the show will include many familiar faces, audiences will see performances that have been tweaked to incorporate social issues facing the international community. "The idea behind the show is that these groups have been challenged to design performances that are inspired by global issues, such as AIDS and human trafficking," Plitch said. "MCs will announce performers along with a short description of the issue that they chose."

"Issue as Muse 2008" will take place tomorrow night in Cohen Auditorium and includes performances by B.E.A.T.S., BlackOut, Essence, Tufts Filipino Club, HYPE!, S Factor, Sarabande, Spirit of Color, Social Justice Arts Initiative, Spoken Word and Turbo. The show is free and will start at 7:30 p.m., with doors opening at 7:00.
