ResLife: No sophomore waitlist

A surprisingly large class of incoming freshmen last spring forced the Office of Residential Life and Learning to put 125 rising sophomores on a waitlist and place 148 freshmen in triples.

In order to avoid repeating such a situation, ResLife will work to leave enough singles open to rising sophomores in this March's general housing lottery by limiting the number of rooms it offers to upperclassmen, according to Director of Residential Life Yolanda King.

ResLife has also met twice with the Office of Admissions to discuss class-size projections for next year, King said.

The rising sophomore and rising senior classes are especially large, King said. "Since we guarantee housing to first-years and sophomores, we have to make sure we have the right amount of room for sophomores. There will be more singles open to them."

Unlike last year, ResLife does not plan to put sophomores on a waitlist. "There will be no waitlist for the sophomores this year," King said. "If there is going to be a waitlist, it will be for juniors and seniors."

King declined to project how many upperclassmen would have to be denied housing.
