With winter weather still covering the Hill, what better way is there to celebrate the approaching spring than with the warm sights and sounds of the Tufts Association of South Asians (TASA) Culture Show?
The TASA Culture Show is one of the most popular shows on campus year-round with its mixture of dance and musical acts, and the shows usually sell out.
Sophomore Kalpana Ganti, one of the show's six directors, says that the goal of this year's show was diversity, in that TASA wanted "to span as many South Asian countries as possible." There are surprises that the directors want to be kept secret in order not to spoil the fun of the show, but there will be dance acts by the amazing Bhangra and Garba teams; these teams normally compete off campus, so it's a great opportunity to see them right here at Tufts. There will also be a new South Indian dance that has never before been performed at the Culture Show. Ganti also says that there are musical acts that are "nothing alike and bring a new feel to the show," one of which is a Nepali act.
The shows will be on Feb. 29 and March 1, with each starting at 7 p.m., but the doors open at 6:30 - and seats are first-come, first-serve. Tickets are $8 and can be bought from the box office in Cohen Auditorium or by calling (617) 627-3493 with a credit card. The proceeds go to a charity for cyclone relief in Bangladesh. There is also an after-party for $10 at Sabur Restaurant and Lounge in Teele Square after Friday night's performance, beginning at 10:30 p.m.
