Andrew Rosen, Men's Tennis
After the men's tennis team lost two of three doubles matches and two of five singles matches to out-of-conference foe Vassar, it was up to sophomore No. 3 singles player Andrew Rosen to save a victory for the squad. Battling a hamstring injury that nearly forced him to retire, Rosen battled to a come-from-behind three-set victory 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 over Brewers freshman Gregory Katz.
After dropping the first set 7-5, Rosen came through with a 6-3 victory in the second set. Tied 4-4 in the decisive third set, Rosen upped his intensity and went on win the next two points, closing out the match and securing a critical 5-4 victory for the Jumbos.
The significance of Rosen's match was huge. The team's first 5-4 win of the season came at the hands of the region's No. 10-ranked team, which entered the clash with Tufts with an 11-2 record in spring play. The victory ended the Jumbos' three-match losing streak, bringing their overall record to 7-5.
Tufts has three matches remaining on its regular season docket, the latter two of which are challenging NESCAC clashes on the road against Amherst and Williams.
Sarah Williams, Women's Lacrosse
Senior attack Sarah Williams contributed 10 points in the women's lacrosse team's 17-7 rout of Endicott last Thursday, becoming the first Jumbo to reach double digits in a game since 1996 and helping the team remain unbeaten in non-conference play. The last player to do so was Rebecca Black (LA '96), the program's all-time leading scorer, who had 10 points in a game against Wesleyan on April 2, 1996.
In total, Williams had four goals and six assists in the game. After Saturday's matchup with Bowdoin, she now has 34 points on the season, good for first on the team. Williams has also accumulated 17 points during the Jumbos' current four-game winning streak, helping to vault the team up the NESCAC standings.
Williams has steadily evolved into one of Tufts' most dangerous offensive weapons over the course of her career. During her sophomore campaign, she finished the season fifth on the team in points. Last year, she ended the year third with 34 points, a mark she has already matched this year with four regular season games still remaining.
The Bethesda, Md. native will next lead the Jumbos into their home matchup with the Babson Beavers on Thursday afternoon. The game will mark Tufts' final out-of-conference contest of the regular season.
