Tufts receives record number of applicants

The admissions office received a record-high number of undergraduate applications this year, but its acceptance rate did not set a record low, according to Dean of Undergraduate Admissions Lee Coffin.

Out of a record 16,644 applications, the admissions office offered enrollment to 25 percent.

This applicant pool marks a 9-percent increase from last year's 15,294. The acceptance rate is a decline from last year's 28 percent.

Many colleges reported record lows in acceptance rates, including most Ivy League schools. Harvard accepted only 7.1 percent of its undergraduate applicants, Yale 8.3, Columbia 8.7 and Brown 13. All of these were records.

Coffin said this year's acceptance rate is the second lowest since 2001.
