Burn-ie baby
The Tufts University Police Department (TUPD) received a call at 1:03 p.m. on Sept. 26 about a fire on the roof of the Carmichael Dining Hall. The Medford Fire Department also responded and hosed down the area.
Someone had lit a stuffed animal on fire and thrown it out of the window of a dorm room, according to TUPD Sgt. Robert McCarthy. The creature landed on the roof of the dining hall, causing the fire, he said.
The minor blaze led to a small amount of damage. The Department of Facilities placed a tarp over the area to protect it from this weekend's rainy weather.
He came in through the dorm room window…
A resident of 14 Sawyer Ave. approached TUPD officers on the road at 12:31 a.m. on Sept. 28 to tell them that $300 had been stolen from her room while she was downstairs in the common room.
She had left her door locked but neglected to lock her windows. The window was open when the student returned to her room. Someone had entered through the window by way of the fire escape and taken money, McCarthy said.
Would you like a bloody nose with that?
A student reported at 2:40 a.m. on Sept. 28 that he had been headbutted at the corner of Packard Avenue and Professors Row. The student said he was waiting in line to buy something from Moe's food stand when another student came up to him and rammed him in the face, giving him a bloody nose.
Midnight marauder
Officers received information at 3:23 a.m. on Sept. 28 about a Tufts student breaking and entering on Bromfield Avenue. When the police received word, the house's resident was chasing the student down Bromfield toward College Avenue.
The student had kicked in the rear door of the apartment, waking the inhabitants, McCarthy said. The chase ended when he entered another house on Bromfield.
The Somerville Police Department arrested the student for breaking and entering.
