DAILY DIGITS

17: Rankings jump by the women's soccer team in the NCAA Div. III National Poll. After only receiving votes in the Sept. 23 NSCAA National Rankings of the country's 25 best squads last week, the Jumbos vaulted all the way to a ninth-slot tie with William Smith and Calvin in yesterday's poll following a pair of wins over then-national No. 8 Wheaton College and the Bates Bobcats on Homecoming weekend.

3: Jumbos who earned NESCAC accolades following another week of solid play. Sophomore Sarah Nolet won Player of the Week for her efforts on the pitch for the women's soccer team, junior Jesse Faller was named Performer of the Week after winning the Codfish Bowl in a field of 155 runners, and sophomore Caitlin Updike won Player of the Week for volleyball after helping to pace her team to victory at the MIT Invitational.

23: Straight victories posted by the football team over the Bates Bobcats. Following the Jumbos' 34-7 dismantling of Bates in flood-like conditions on Zimman Field Homecoming Saturday, Tufts extended its winning streak over the hapless Bobcats, which dates back to the 1986 season. The Jumbos are now 2-0 and will take on the 0-2 Bowdoin Polar Bears on the road Saturday.

91: Combined points put up by the New York Jets and Arizona Cardinals in their contest Sunday, which the Jets won 56-35. The game featured a career-high six touchdowns for QB Brett Favre, and 472 passing yards for hurler Kurt Warner. The Cardinals turned the ball over seven times in the game, giving the Jets ample opportunity to decimate Arizona's porous defense.

7: Complete games that CC Sabathia has thrown in 17 starts with the Milwaukee Brewers. He leads the national league in the category, despite only having joined the Senior Circuit midway through the season He is also one ahead of Roy Halladay for the Major League lead with 10. The last time someone recorded double-digit complete games in a season was 1999, when Randy Johnson posted 12 for the Arizona Diamondbacks.

5.63: Red Sox pitcher Josh Beckett's home ERA in 12 starts at Fenway Park this season, to go along with a 1.38 WHIP. His numbers on the road, by comparison, include a 2.85 ERA and 1.05 WHIP. Beckett's first start of the playoffs was pushed back to Game 3 against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim at Fenway after he sustained an oblique injury while throwing a side session on Friday.
