The Somerville Transportation Equity Partnership (STEP) and the Medford Green Line Neighborhood Alliance (MGNA) hosted a community meeting yesterday at which the groups argued for ending the planned Green Line extension at a location by the Mystic Valley Parkway (Route 16).
Both STEP and MGNA oppose the alternate terminus location, which is at the intersection of College and Boston Avenues. Plans are in place to build a station there regardless of whether it will be the final stop.
State Sen. Patricia Jehlen (D-2nd Middlesex), state Rep. Carl Sciortino (D-34th Middlesex) and Somerville Mayor Joseph Curtatone were also in favor of the Route 16 terminus.
"It's fair to say that there is clearly enough demand for a station at Route 16," Sciortino said in reference to the petition for the Route 16 station, which already has 2,300 signatures.
Curtatone was extremely supportive of the extension. "This is the best transit project on the books right now. Your advocacy as citizens is crucial," he said.
