The women's basketball team (4-1) won its fourth game of the season last night, defeating the host Salem State Lady Vikings (1-3) 66-62 to rebound from a loss to Brandeis suffered on Sunday. The Jumbos -- who led by 12 at the break -- held off a second-half charge from Salem State to secure the victory.
Sophomore guard Colleen Hart led Tufts, pouring in 19 points on eight of 15 shooting from the floor, including three of five from behind the three-point line. Junior forward Julia Baily, the team's leading scorer heading into the game, was held to just 10 points but pulled down seven rebounds. The squad made up for a relatively poor night of shooting with perfection from the charity stripe, where it converted on all 10 opportunities.
Junior center Danielle Jenkins led the Lady Vikings, notching a game-high 28 and recording five blocks down low. Despite Jenkins' effort, Tufts corrected many of the defensive problems that plagued it over the weekend, as just one other Salem State player scored in double figures and the team shot 37.5 percent from the field.
