Katie Tausanovitch, Women's Basketball
Senior forward Katie Tausanovitch, who is also a layout editor for the Daily, was part of an all-around solid effort for the Jumbos on Saturday afternoon in the team's NESCAC Tournament first-round game. Chipping in with 12 points and a season-high 15 rebounds — one-third of the team's total rebounds — Tausanovitch helped the team to a 71-57 victory over sixth-seeded Wesleyan. Thirteen of Tausanovitch's rebounds came on the defensive end and she shot 60 percent from the field, tacking on a pair of blocks and two assists to her stat line. In just 24 minutes on the floor, she finished as the team leader in rebounds and tied for second in points on the night.
So far this season, Tausanovitch averages 9.9 points per game for the 21-3 Jumbos in addition to snagging 6.4 rebounds per game. She also shoots 46.4 percent from the field, the best percentage of Tufts' starters, and is the team leader in blocks with 28. In four contests against the Cardinals dating back to last season, Tausanovitch has averaged a double-double, putting up 12.0 points and 10.3 rebounds per game. Likewise, in her six playoff games since transferring to Tufts two years ago, she has shot 57.1 percent from the field. Tausanovitch and the Jumbos now turn their attention to second-seeded Amherst in this Saturday's NESCAC semifinal at Bowdoin.
Nick Resor, Ice Hockey
They say that great things come in threes, but for freshman Nick Resor of the ice hockey team, that was not the case this weekend — they came in fours. Already with a goal and an assist to his name from Friday night's playoff-clinching win over UMass Boston, Resor helped carry the Jumbos to a 3-2 overtime victory over Babson on Saturday with the first hat trick of his career. The weekend total of four goals and an assist launched him to first on the Jumbos' scoring list with 16 goals and second in points with 27, helping to secure the Jumbos' first NESCAC Tournament bid since the 2004-05 season.
Resor has been part of the Jumbos' top offensive unit all year, combining with sophomores Tom Derosa and Dylan Cooper for a total of 36 goals and 76 points on the season. He first opened the scoring account on Saturday before tying the game when the Jumbos were down and finally netted the game-winner in overtime for his best performance to date. Listed at 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds, Resor has been a major physical presence as well as a consistent offensive threat all year. He picked the right time to get hot as the Jumbos get set to enter the NESCAC Tournament against No.1 Amherst on Saturday.
