Three fencers recognized by Northeast Fencing Conference

After cementing a sixth-place team finish at the New England Women's Intercollegiate Fencing Association's (NEWIFA) New England Championships over the weekend, three Jumbos received All-Conference honors.

Senior foilist Christine Lee was named one of nine First-Team conference All-Stars. Lee compiled a 30-6 record this season, highlighted by a 3-0 record against Brown, who received national votes in the latest conference pole.

Sophomore epeeists Coryn Wolk and Georgia Ranes were also recognized, earning spots on the All-Conference second team. The classmates shared sparkling 27-9 records over the course of the season, with Ranes stepping up in place of junior Amani Smathers, who is currently abroad. In the first meet of the season, Wolk picked up two victories against national No. 4 Harvard. Meanwhile, Ranes had the strongest record of any Tufts fencer at New England Championships with an 11-3 record.

The Tufts fencing team currently holds a 6-15 record, though the Jumbos did beat out nine other teams in last weekend's Championships.

Lee, Wolk and Ranes have all qualified for NCAA Regionals, to be held March 5. Lee holds the best chance to advance, as she is seeded in the top 20, though only eight qualify for the NCAA Championships.
