In its final race of the season, the women's crew novice eight boat took first place and a gold medal at the ECAC National Invitational Championships on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass. on May 9.
The Jumbos took second behind Trinity in the second heat, finishing just over four seconds behind the Bantams, but they outdistanced Trinity by over three seconds with a 7:13.178 time in the grand final to capture first.
In other results at ECACs, the men's first varsity eight boat came in sixth in its heat, finishing just under 17 seconds behind fifth-place UMass, and was nearly 30 seconds behind the time necessary to advance to the grand finals. The women's first varsity eight saw a similar result in its heat, placing fifth out of six squads and then later taking fifth in the third finals with a 7:22.268 time.
After placing fourth out of four boats in its heat, the women's third varsity eight boat then rebounded in the petit finals, outdistancing Wellesley and Mount Holyoke to win in 7:56.842, over 14 seconds out in front.
Overall, the women finished in a tie for eighth place in the team point standings with 43 points, knotted with the University of New Hampshire, while the men tallied just six points on the day.
