Police Briefs

Look what we found

Tufts University Police Department (TUPD) officers at 10:23 a.m. on Feb. 10 stopped at the fraternity house at 92 Professors Row to look for a student. Upon entering the building, the officers smelled burning marijuana coming from the room of another student. They were let into the room by its resident and confiscated a Mason jar with marijuana in it. The success of their primary mission, finding the first student, was not reported.

Deja Nu

TUPD officers at 1:39 a.m. on Feb. 11 returned to 92 Professors Row in response to a call complaining about residents throwing beer bottles off of the back porch. As with the day before, they smelled marijuana upon entering the building. They saw several students sitting together, with one off to the side inhaling something from a clear bag. The officers confiscated the vaporizer used to fill the bag but were not able to find any marijuana. Officers spoke to the president of the fraternity about the bottle-throwing problem.

A brou-haha

A group of six students at 3:00 a.m. on Feb. 12 got into a fight in the lobby of Sophia Gordon Hall. One female and two male students had been in the lobby after returning from Boston, where one of them had gotten into a different fight with someone. When another female and two male students walked in together, laughing, the first group thought they were laughing at them, and a fight broke out. Although the fight was broken up before TUPD and Tufts Emergency Medical Services arrived, all students involved were advised of their rights and checked for injuries, and the area was cleared.

"I'd like to report a … nah"

TUPD officers at 12:04 a.m. on Feb. 15 investigated a report of marijuana odor coming from a room in Bush Hall. When the officers knocked on the door, no one answered, so they unlocked the door and entered. The fan was on and the window open, which the officers thought odd for February. After searching the room, officers confiscated a bottle of scotch, a small bag of marijuana and a grinder for marijuana. TUPD officers did not alert the student about the confiscation but are assuming that the student will figure it out and not report that his marijuana was stolen.
