Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick will visit Tufts on April 30 as the keynote speaker for the 2012 Merrin Distinguished Lecture Series, the Tufts Hillel Moral Voices Committee announced yesterday.
The lecture series, as part of Tufts Hillel's Moral Voices program, addresses a single issue during each academic year. This year's focus is immigration.
The event will be at 8:00 p.m. in Cohen Auditorium. Free tickets will be available at the Cohen Box Office on Monday and can be claimed with a valid Tufts ID.
Patrick, a member of the Democratic Party, is the current and 71st Governor of Massachusetts and the author of the memoir, "A Reason to Believe: Lessons from an Improbable Life" (2011). Patrick first assumed office in 2007 and was re?elected in 2010. He is the Commonwealth's first African? American governor and is the second African?American to be elected governor of any U.S. state.
Past speakers in the lecture series have included television journalist Lisa Ling and environmental activist Erin Brockovitch.
