Boston Ave. Boloco remains open but on the market
September 21Boloco has narrowly avoided closing its Boston Avenue branch in the short-term but remains mired in financial instability and has not ruled out eliminating the location.
Alcohol policy and personal responsibility
September 21The consumption of alcoholic beverages by people under the age of 21 is illegal. When someone under the age of 21 decides to take a sip of any alcoholic beverage he or she is deciding to break the law. Please keep that in mind as you read this essay.
Vocal radicals inevitable in America
September 21As someone who has political views that are often in the minority on our campus, I try not only to research and strengthen my own views, but to better understand the views of people who disagree with many of the ideals and policies I have.
Peace Day brings nonviolence to the Hill
September 21Students observed Peace One Day yesterday with a series of events designed to promote a global ceasefire and foster awareness of the global peace movement.
Gordon says $40 million gift designed to make U.S. students more competitive
September 21Bernard Gordon (H '92) pledged $40 million this summer to the School of Engineering to improve engineering leadership programs for undergraduates. In an interview last week, he said that he hopes that Tufts will use his gift to make American engineering students more competitive by giving them more than just technical preparation for the real world. But he cautioned that his contribution, which will come in increments over a number of years, is conditional on Tufts following through on its commitment to make promised changes.

Back to school means cutbacks in spending
September 21Colleges nationwide have found small ways to adjust their budgets in the context of a slow national economy, from eliminating landline phones to getting rid of premium cable. At Tufts, incoming freshman may not have even noticed that the Orientation 2009 budget was significantly lower.
Veterans Day
September 212009 posed an interesting problem for Tufts administrators. Because Labor Day came so late, we started the academic year much later than normal. This has understandably forced changes in the academic calendar. A typical calendar would have the last day of final exams end much too late for many students to get home in time for Christmas Eve or even Christmas Day. I point this out not to claim that all Tufts students celebrate Christmas but simply to explain that this was likely the rationale of the administrators. Thus, Tufts has determined that we will hold and attend classes on Nov. 11. Normally on Veterans Day the campus would see Tufts students who are in ROTC conducting a ceremony on the Memorial Steps. This year we will at best see an abbreviated ceremony; at worst it will be a completely normal day.
Flyer reignites discussion of racial insensitivity on campus
September 21A flyer that some have called offensive to Asian people sparked an immediate reaction from the Asian-American community after being discovered in Hill Hall last Thursday.
Lord Jeffs blank Jumbos in home opener, drop Tufts to 0-3
September 20Coming off a heartbreaking double-overtime loss at Eastern Connecticut State last Tuesday, the men's soccer team entered Saturday's home opener against NESCAC rival Amherst looking for its first victory of the season. But even though the nationally ranked No. 2 Lord Jeffs handily toppled the Jumbos 4-0, the members of the Tufts squad were still upbeat in spite of their 0-3 record.
Goals elusive as Jeffs hold off Jumbos
September 20The Tufts women's soccer team won its first game of the season last Tuesday versus Keene State, but its first NESCAC victory has been more difficult to achieve. Another opportunity fell to the wayside on Saturday afternoon when nationally ranked No. 5 Amherst dashed the Jumbo's upset hopes 1-0.
Jumbos break in Cousens Gym with back-to-back victories
September 20"There's no place like home," Dorothy once told us as she clicked the heels of her ruby slippers and longed for Kansas. The Tufts volleyball team apparently didn't need to watch "The Wizard of Oz" to find that out, as the Jumbos christened their new home court at the renovated Cousens Gymnasium with two dominant wins over the weekend.
